Frequently asked questions
What does RocketGear offer that other online educators do not?
Other platforms focus too much on one side of engineering such as zeroing in on one specific toolset (e.g. CAD) or staying too abstract with the theory (e.g. statics, dynamics, etc.) and don't incorporate enough practical problem solving into the mix. Furthermore, other online providers often only cover few engineering topics in a disjointed manner. RocketGear provides an end-to-end course solution starting with Introduction to Mechanical Engineering and building from there combining the theory, the application, and the tools into a cohesive interactive learning experience. Students aren't taught just how to learn a tool or learn formulas, but are given practical experience on how to apply the tools, the math, and the science into the engineering design process ending with concrete examples of using engineering to solve real-world problems.
What courses do you offer now and plan to offer in the future?
Currently, we offer 5 courses that provide a solid introduction into engineering:
1. Introduction to Mechanical Engineering with PTC Creo
2. Introduction to Programming for the Engineer
3. Engineering Design
4. Calculus 1
5. Physics 1
These courses are initially offered interactive only with the "Go at your own pace" offered later in 2020.
Every 4 months, we plan to offer 3-4 more courses aligned with a Bachelor's program of Mechanical Engineering.

Are courses graded and do I earn a certificate?
The interactive courses are graded and do require assignments, quizzes, and exams. That said, our goal is not to stress students out by requiring more work with deadlines. Consequently, assignments, quizzes, and exams don't have deadlines, but we recommend that you complete all of the assignments before continuing to the next module. This helps put into practice what you are learning while giving you the flexibility around your schedule. When you do complete a course with a grade higher than 80%, you will earn a certificate of completion. Assignments, quizzes, and exams can be re-taken until you feel like you've mastered the content.
Upon completion of RocketGear, am I qualified for the PE exam?
In the US, the PE or Professional Engineer exam is managed by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) with each state having its own qualifications to be able to sit for the PE exam. At this time, completion of the RocketGear curriculum does not qualify you for the PE exam. Consult your state's NCEES board for more information regarding PE exam qualification.
